The Latest from Graphic Classics —

Native American Classics: Graphic Classics Volume 24

Native American Classics presents adaptations of early stories and poems by Native American writers including Charles Eastman, Zitkala-Sa, Alex Posey, E. Pauline Johnson and George Copway. Artists include Timothy Truman, Robby McMurtry, Jay Odjick, Daryl Talbot, Toby Cypress, Weshoyot Alvitre, Roy Boney Jr., Tara Audibert, Marty Two Bulls, Terry LaBan, Afua Richardson and John Findley. The volume is co-edited with noted Native authors John E. Smelcer and Joseph Bruchac, who each contribute a piece to the collection.

Sadly, artist and teacher Robby McMurtry died just weeks after completing his adaptation of Charles Eastman’s “On Wolf Mountain” for this volume. Publisher Eureka Productions and editor John E. Smelcer have pledged $1 for each book sold in the month of March 2013 to the Robby McMurtry Scholarship for the Arts.

Now on sale — only $15!

What’s Happening at Graphic Classics —

Now available (ahead of schedule) is the fourth edition of Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe. The third edition of this, our most popular volume, has been sold out for several months, and we are happy to return the book to print in a revised and improved volume, with 40 new pages. New to the book is Poe’s eerie “The Pit and the Pendulum”, adapted by new scripter David Hontiveros, and illustrated by GC favorite Carlo Vergara, and “William Wilson”, adapted by Rafael Nieves and Dan Dougherty.

Returning is J.B. Bonivert’s unique adaptation of “The Raven”, which originally appeared in 1979 in Star*Reach, and was reprinted in the first and second editions of Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe in 2001 and 2004. The adaptation was revised for this fourth edition, and Jeff agreed to also interpret “Annabel Lee” in the same style as a companion piece. Also included is Gerry Alanguilan’s chilling adaptation of “The Black Cat”, moving over from the out-of-print Graphic Classics: Special EditionAnd returning from the third edition are “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Rick Geary, “The Imp of the Perverse” by Lance Tooks, “The Premature Burial” by Joe Ollmann,“The Cask of Amontillado” by Pedro Lopez, “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Matt Howarth, and “Never Bet the Devil Your Head” by Milton Knight.  Our next all-new, full-color volume will be Christmas Classics: Graphic Classics Volume Nineteen. Production is well underway, and our artists will be working through the sweltering summer months, dreaming of snow and reindeer. The lead story will be, of course, Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol”, adapted by British scripter Alex Burrows and illustrated by Micah Farritor, following his fantastic interpretation of “The War of the Worlds” for Science Fiction Classics. Other adaptations will be Clement C. Moore’s “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by French cartoonist Florence Cestac, O. Henry’s “A Chapparral Christmas Gift”, illustrated by Cynthia Martin, Willa Cather’s “The Strategy of the Were-Wolf Dog” illustrated by Evert Geradts, and “A Luckless Santa Claus”, an early F. Scott Fitgerald story illustrated by Simon GaneAlso featured will be Sherlock Holmes in Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Blue Carbuncle”, adapted by Rich Rainey and Hunt Emerson, and “The Wondersmith”, a truly strange Christmas tale by Fitz-James O'Brien, illustrated by Rick Geary. Look for it in October 2011, in plenty of time for the Christmas season.

Best wishes for the new year from Graphic Classics.

Due to the injury of one artist and an illness in the family of another, we have reluctantly decided to reschedule the release of Western Classics: Graphic Classics Volume Twenty. The book will now be available in February 2011. Most of the artwork is now finished, and we can promise you it will be worth the wait.

In the meantime, we remain busy here at GC, and June 2010 will see the release of the greatly revised fourth edition of Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe. The third edition of this, our most popular volume, has been sold out for several months (though you may still be able to find it from some stores and online dealers,) and we are happy to return the book to print in a revised and improved edition, with 40 new pages.
